Karma

Ram Dass talked a lot about karma. He described karma as, “all of the steps you took to get where you are today.”

When I heard this, it reminded me of how important it is to face what is going on in life. We are constantly faced with the result of our past decisions.

Karma isn’t my favorite word, so let’s look at karma as a cloak. The cloak we put on, wrap around us and as we bring the edges of that cloak around with our hands it comes in front of our eyes so it can be faced. If we continue to pull the cloak over our head we can let go of the grip and our karma drops behind us. As the cloak falls to the ground we can then walk forward in a more positive manner. An up leveling in life. The more karma we drop, the more we step forward and grow.

Some of the karma is easy to drop and some is just really hard. This visualization has helped me to refine what is most important to me. It shows me when I am being stubborn or self sabotaging or how I am standing. Am I in victim mode or standing in my power as a victor?

We have way more support in life than we think we do. I sometimes have a hard time feeling safe to express how I truly feel. Fear of rejection. Fear of feeling small. Again, just the cloak of my steps showing up in my life to be released.

What are you facing today that is part of a pattern of karma? Look for the safety and support you require, then ask for help. It might be shameful or prideful beliefs that stand in your way of moving forward, but anguish just grows. Is it time to step past the part of you that is holding resolve back?

Meet yourself with gratitude and gentleness. Life is a journey to be experienced, not a race.
