Mid Week Mindful Moment: Seek Tranquility

In today’s Mid Week Mindful Moment I wanted to share a memory that I revisited not too long ago. When I was working at Voila Day Spa I had a tall, black cabinet in my room where I kept all of my linens for my facial business. I remember the silver knob on that cabinet, and on that knob hung a little plaque that read, “Seek Tranquility.” As my clients laid on the table it was visible to them as a reminder to enjoy the rest. Every time I reached into that cabinet for clean sheets or towels for the next service, that plaque would clank the cupboard door. What an amazing reminder to carve out tranquil moments for me, too.

As we work away our days and run the errands of the trends in our life, it gets so easy to forget to take a moment or two to unwind and set our heads on straight. What we focus on creates our hours, days, weeks and months, eventually turning into years and decades. It is in the tranquil times that we experience peace and practice gratitude for life, and I’m here to encourage you to create space for it.

In the quote below Rumi reminds us not only to find our ‘place of patience,’ but to focus on the fact that seeking tranquility helps life to flow into us perfectly, all that we need:

“When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of distress and anxiety;

If I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without any pain.

From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me.

There is a great secret in this for anyone who can grasp it.”

This week I ask that you seek out a tranquil moment or two. Whether that is by actually taking Savasana in your yoga class, by practicing a few rounds of a 3 part breath exercise, or by just going outside and experiencing what might be tranquil to you at that particular time. It is up to you.

Creating small changes in our life can lead us to becoming who we want to be. Let’s start by taking time to stop with the harried, hurried life that leads to the ‘furnace of distress,’ and focus on what we most want to attract in our life.
