What Is Worth Our Time?

In today’s Mid Week Mindful Moment, I wanted to look at how we decipher what is worth our time.

If you are anything like most people, it is hard to say ‘yes’ and it’s hard to say ‘no’ and it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing things we really don’t have time for. Trying to keep the big picture in focus without getting sidetracked can be overwhelming. We can even start to see our vision bubble into too many directions.

The people we invest in, whether it be our family, friends or business relationships is where I look when deciphering what’s worth my time. People come first. Motive comes next. Am I a provider? Am I adding value or am I building long term relationships? Am I showing up to what is important not only to other’s I care for, but to myself?

Keeping our priorities straight will give us the direction needed to know what to invest in to keep from feeling overwhelmed, overworked or from missing out on the events that mean the most. If we think about where we want to be in life, it’s easier to make the decision to do or not to do.

A friend of mine told me that she and her husband love to spend time in their home and love to travel. These are the places in their lives they invest their energy into. I have another friend who says she can’t imagine life without horses. She takes me riding whenever I come to visit. This is where she invests her time. I have a client that has told me that she wishes she had started doing facials at a younger age, because she believes it would have made her a better mother. My question to you is, are you able to easily look at your own life and see what is valuable to you?

It’s best to remember that we all have different priorities, desires and dreams. It comes down to the daily, mindful decisions of what is worth our time that help us to be with who we want to spend time with and where we want to be.
